about

The album "Fragments of the Mechanical Unbecoming" can without doubt be described as one of the most uncompromising albums in the history of industrial black metal. All four songs exemplify the potential of black metal in the late 1990s and early 2000s. At that time, a few pioneers decided to break new ground. But the story is well known: In the end, the commercial side won out, black metal became a mass phenomenon or turned to nature or pagan religious themes and the further development of this genre stalled. However, "Fragments of the Mechanical Unbecoming" shows the potential of this genre, because the path to new musical spheres, the desire for artistic experimentation and the courage to tread new and commercially unusual paths is clearly noticeable here.

The songs themselves are basically also the result of original ambiguity. For a long time, the band thought that they would play thrash metal with electronic elements, but it was only with time that the members themselves realised that they had taken the path towards black metal. Some of the songs that were written before "Fragments of the Mechanical Unbecoming" can be heard on the limited edition of "Dystopia et Disturbia". The songs on "Fragments..." themselves were written in a very time-consuming experimental process and were shortened in the course of their creation. It is also exciting to note that the band has completely deviated from the original path of a metal production and turned to a production method that is actually common for electro or industrial acts.

The arrangement of the compositions is also exciting for listeners: The focus was primarily on the attempt to cross musical boundaries with this album without abandoning song structures that have been familiar since the 1970s and 1960s. Furthermore, care was taken to use the same instrumental line-up as bands from the 1970s (guitars, synth bass, voice, keyboards, drum sound) and then to create a song in the course of a process. Vocally, the songs were refined by all three original members, namely Deimon, Neru and Jegger. The process itself was carried out on his very old, limiting PC.

In addition to the musical treatment, the lyrical concept is also special. As the title itself suggests, the focus is on the themes of emptiness, decline, a mechanical-technical downward spiral and the process of decomposition. For the members, it was above all the initial spark to continue on Tristwood's path and to attempt to perceive music as a field of experimentation.
